Well, our inaugural youth summer camp is in the books. Despite the oppressive North Carolina heat, it was a big achievement. With temperatures in the high 90's and heat indexes well over 100 degrees, we managed to beat the heat with lots of ice, water breaks, a mister and a fan, ice pops and water-balloon fights. Guess what was the kids’ favorite? Yep, the water-balloon fights.
We had five campers - ages 6 to 10 - for three half-days, July 25 through 27. Four of the kids had some exposure to Irish sports, with one athletic young man, never have picked up a hurl or football before. It was quite amazing to see how much each camper improved in just three days. All of the the kids said they enjoyed the scrimmage games the most.
On behalf of TISYA and our coaches who donated their time, I want to thank all of the kids who came out, braved the heat, listened intently and played their little hearts out. Safe to say we probably had the best coach to kid ratio of any camp in the nation!
With our first camp wrapped up, we are already planning the next youth event and hope to make it even bigger and even better. The seeds have been planted for youth Irish sports in the Triangle. Stay tuned...

TISYA hosted 17 Durham youth for a great match at Northern Durham High School on June 5. After two hours of football, it was clear the players displayed great enthusiasm and talent.
Thanks to Mike Barbaza, Dara O' hAnnaidh, Laree Reeves, and Nick Holmes for a great organizational effort!
Extra special thanks to Alan Rigsbee and Mike Monsees from our host Northern Durham High School for their generous hospitality!
